How a course paper should be formatted

2026-09-01

General requirements

At most universities, a course paper is written on A4 paper in Times New Roman, 14 pt, with 1.5 line spacing. Margins: 3 cm on the left (for binding), 1.5 cm on the right, 2 cm top and bottom. Paragraph indent is 1.25 cm, justified.

Title page

The first page shows the ministry and university name, faculty, department, subject, topic, and the full names of the author and supervisor. The title page itself is not numbered but is counted — the next page (table of contents) usually starts at number 2.

Table of contents and chapters

The table of contents lists every chapter and section with page numbers. The usual structure: introduction, Chapter I (theoretical), Chapter II (applied/analytical), conclusion, references. Each chapter starts on a new page.

Reference list

Sources are listed alphabetically, in author-year format or the style your department requires (GOST, APA). 15–25 sources is usually enough.
